Verse:001 Abdul Daryabadi : Ta. Sin. Mim. Dr. Mohsin : Tâ¬Sîn¬Mîm [These letters are one of the miracles of the Qur'ân, and none but Allâh (Alone) knows their meanings]. Mufti Taqi Usmani : Ta Sin Mim . [QETafseerComment] Pickthal : Ta. Sin. Mim. Yusuf Ali : Ta. Sin. Mim.

Verse:002 Abdul Daryabadi : These are verses of the Manifest Book. Dr. Mohsin : These are Verses of the manifest Book (that makes clear truth from falsehood, good from evil). Mufti Taqi Usmani : These are verses of the clear Book. Pickthal : These are revelations of the Scripture that maketh plain. Yusuf Ali : These are Verses of the Book that makes (things) clear.

Verse:003 Abdul Daryabadi : WE recite unto thee of the story of Musa and Firawn with truth fora people who believe. Dr. Mohsin : We recite to you some of the news of Mûsa (Moses) and Fir'aun (Pharaoh) in truth, for a people who believe (in this Qur'ân, and in the Oneness of Allâh). Mufti Taqi Usmani : We recite to you a part of the story of Musa and Pharaoh with truth for a people who believe. Pickthal : We narrate unto thee (somewhat) of the story of Moses and Pharaoh with truth, for folk who believe. Yusuf Ali : We rehearse to thee some of the story of Moses and Pharaoh in Truth, for people who believe.

Verse:004 Abdul Daryabadi : Verily Firawn exalted himself in the earth and made the people thereof into sects, weakening a party among them, slaying their sons and letting their women live. Verify he was of the corrupters. Dr. Mohsin : Verily, Fir'aun (Pharaoh) exalted himself in the land and made its people sects, weakening (oppressing) a group (i.e. Children of Israel) among them, killing their sons, and letting their females live. Verily, he was of the Mufsidûn (i.e. those who commit great sins and crimes, oppressors, tyrants). Mufti Taqi Usmani : Indeed, Pharaoh had become high-handed in the land, and had divided its people into different groups; he used to persecute a group of them, slaughtering their sons and keeping their women alive. Indeed he was one of the mischief-makers, Pickthal : Lo! Pharaoh exalted himself in the earth and made its people castes. A tribe among them he oppressed, killing their sons and sparing their women. Lo! he was of those who work corruption. Yusuf Ali : Truly Pharaoh elated himself in the land and broke up its people into sections depressing a group among them: their sons he slew, but he kept alive their females: for he was indeed a maker of mischief.

Verse:005 Abdul Daryabadi : And We desired that We should be gracious unto those who were weakened in the land, and We should make them leaders and We should make them the inheritors. Dr. Mohsin : And We wished to do a favour to those who were weak (and oppressed) in the land, and to make them rulers and to make them the inheritors, Mufti Taqi Usmani : While We intended to favor those who were held as weak in the land, and to make them leaders and make them inheritors, Pickthal : And We desired to show favour unto those who were oppressed in the earth, and to make them examples and to make them the inheritors, Yusuf Ali : And We wished to be gracious to those who were being depressed in the land to make them leaders (in faith) and make them heirs

Verse:006 Abdul Daryabadi : And We should establish them in the earth, and We should let Firawn and Haman and their hostee from them that which they dreaded. Dr. Mohsin : And to establish them in the land, and We let Fir'aun (Pharaoh) and Hâmân and their hosts receive from them that which they feared. Mufti Taqi Usmani : And give them power in the land, and to show Pharaoh, Haman and their armies the very thing they were fearing from them. [QETafseerComment] Pickthal : And to establish them in the earth, and to show Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts that which they feared from them. Yusuf Ali : To establish a firm place for them in the land and to show Pharaoh, Haman, and their hosts, at their hands, the very things against which they were taking precautions. BookBub Abdul Daryabadi : And if they were to be entered upon from the sides thereof and they were asked to sedition, they would surely have committed it, and they would have tarried therein but slightly. Dr. Mohsin : And if the enemy had entered from all sides (of the city), and they had been exhorted to Al¬Fitnah (i.e. to renegade from Islâm to polytheism) they would surely have committed it and would have hesitated thereupon but little. Mufti Taqi Usmani : And if it (Madinah) is entered (by the enemy, in their presence,) from all its sides and they are asked (to join) the mischief, they would readily commit it, and would not remain in them (their homes) but for a short while [QETafseerComment] Pickthal : If the enemy had entered from all sides and they had been exhorted to treachery, they would have committed it, and would have hesitated thereupon but little. Yusuf Ali : And if an entry had been effected to them from the sides of the (City), and they had been incited to sedition they would certainly have brought it to pass, with none but a brief delay!

Verse:015 Abdul Daryabadi : And arruredly they had already covenanted with Allah that they would not turn their backs; verily the covenant with Allah must be questioned about. Dr. Mohsin : And indeed they had already made a covenant with Allâh not to turn their backs, and a covenant with Allâh must be answered for. Mufti Taqi Usmani : Despite that they had already made a covenant with Allah that they would not turn their backs; and a covenant with Allah has to be answered for. [QETafseerComment] Pickthal : And verily they had already sworn unto Allah that they would not turn their backs (to the foe). An oath to Allah must be answered for. Yusuf Ali : And yet they had already covenanted with Allah not to turn their backs, and a covenant with Allah must (surely) be answered for.

Verse:016 Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: flight shall not profit you if ye flee from death or slaughter, and lo! ye will not enjoy life except for a little. Dr. Mohsin : Say (O Muhammad SAW to these hypocrites who ask your permission to run away from you): "Flight will not avail you if you flee from death or killing, and then you will enjoy no more than a little while!" Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “Flight will never be of any use to you, if you flee from death or killing, and even then you will not be left to enjoy (life) but for a little while.” Pickthal : Say: Flight will not avail you if ye flee from death or killing, and then ye dwell in comfort but a little while. Yusuf Ali : Say: "Running away will not profit you if ye are running away from death or slaughter; and even if (ye do escape), no more than a brief (respite) will ye be allowed to enjoy!"

Verse:017 Abdul Daryabadi : Say thou: who is there that will protect you from Allah if He intendeth to bring evil on you or intendeth mercy for you? And they shall not find for themselves, besides Allah, a patron or helper. Dr. Mohsin : Say: "Who is he who can protect you from Allâh if He intends to harm you, or intends mercy on you?" And they will not find, besides Allâh, for themselves any Walî (protector, supporter) or any helper. Mufti Taqi Usmani : Say, “Who is there to protect you from Allah, if He intends evil to you, or (who is there to prevent Him) if He intends mercy for you?” Beside Allah, they will not find for themselves either a friend or a helper. Pickthal : Say: Who is he who can preserve you from Allah if He intendeth harm for you, or intendeth mercy for you. They will not find that they have any friend or helper other than Allah. Yusuf Ali : Say: "Who is it that can screen you from Allah if it be His wish to give you Punishment or to give you Mercy?" Nor will they find for themselves, besides Allah any protector or helper.

Verse:018 Abdul Daryabadi : Surely Allah knoweth those among you who hinder and those who say unto their brethren: come hither unto us; and they themselves come not to the battle save a ittle, Dr. Mohsin : Allâh already knows those among you who keep back (men) from fighting in Allâh's Cause, and those who say to their brethren "Come here towards us," while they (themselves) come not to the battle except a little. Mufti Taqi Usmani : Allah does know the ones from among you who prevent (others from joining the battle) and those who say to their brothers, “Come along with us,” and who do not come to the battle but for a little while, Pickthal : Allah already knoweth those of you who hinder, and those who say unto their brethren: "Come ye hither unto us!" and they come not to the stress of battle save a little, Yusuf Ali : Verily Allah knows those among you who keep back (men) and those who say to their brethren, "Come along to us" but come not to the fight except for just a little while.

Verse:019 Abdul Daryabadi : Being niggardly toward you. Then when the fightin cometh, thou beholdest them look unto thee, their eyes rolling about, like the eyes of him who fainteth unto death. Then when the fighting is over they inveigh against you with sharp tongues, being niggardly of the good things. These have not believed; wherefore Allah hath made their works of none effect, and that is with Allah ever easy. Dr. Mohsin : Being miserly towards you (as regards help and aid in Allâh's Cause). Then when fear comes, you will see them looking to you, their eyes revolving like (those of) one over whom hovers death, but when the fear departs, they will smite you with sharp tongues, miserly towards (spending anything in any) good (and only covetous of booty and wealth). Such have not believed. Therefore Allâh makes their deeds fruitless, and that is ever easy for Allâh. Mufti Taqi Usmani : And that too) with a greed against you (i.e. to extract a share of spoils from you). But when fear comes, you will see them looking towards you, rolling their eyes, like the one who gets faint because of death. Then once fear is gone, they assail you with sharp tongues, in greed for the good (i.e. the wealth acquired as spoils). [QETafseerComment] These people did not accept faith (in real terms), therefore Allah has nullified their acts. [QETafseerComment] All this is so easy for Allah. Pickthal : Being sparing of their help to you (believers). But when the fear cometh, then thou (Muhammad) seest them regarding thee with rolling eyes like one who fainteth unto death. Then, when the fear departeth, they scald you with sharp tongues in their greed for wealth (from the spoil). Such have not believed. Therefor Allah maketh their deeds fruitless. And that is easy for Allah. Yusuf Ali : Covetous over you. Then when fear comes, thou wilt see them looking to thee, their eyes revolving, like (those of) one over whom hovers death: but when the fear is past, they will smite you with sharp tongues, covetous of goods. Such men have no faith, and so Allah has made their deeds of none effect: and that is easy for Allah.

Verse:020 Abdul Daryabadi : They deem that the confederates have not yet departed; and if the confederates should come, they would fain to be in the desert with the wandering Arabs inquiring for tidings of you. And if they happen to be amongst you, they would fight but little. Dr. Mohsin : They think that Al¬Ahzâb (the Confederates) have not yet withdrawn, and if Al¬Ahzâb (the Confederates) should come (again), they would wish they were in the deserts (wandering) among the bedouins, seeking news about you (from a far place); and if they (happen) to be among you, they would not fight but little. Mufti Taqi Usmani : They think that the coalition forces have not (yet) gone. And should the coalition forces come (again), they would like to be living in countryside among the Bedouins, asking (others) about your news. And even if they were to remain among you, they would not fight, but a little. Pickthal : They hold that the clans have not retired (for good); and if the clans should advance (again), they would fain be in the desert with the wandering Arabs, asking for the news of you; and if they were among you, they would not give battle, save a little. Yusuf Ali : They think that the Confederates have not withdrawn; and if, the Confederates should come (again), they would wish they were in the deserts (wandering) among the Bedouins, and seeking news about you (from a safe distance); and if they were in your midst, they would fight but little.

Verse:021 Abdul Daryabadi : Assuredly there hath been for you: in the apostle of Allah an excellent pattern for him who hopeth in Allah and the Last Day and remembereth Allah much. Dr. Mohsin : Indeed in the Messenger of Allâh (Muhammad SAW) you have a good example to follow for him who hopes for (the Meeting with) Allâh and the Last Day and remembers Allâh much. Mufti Taqi Usmani : There is indeed a good model for you in the Messenger of Allah - for the one who has hope in Allah and the Last Day, and remembers Allah profusely. [QETafseerComment] Pickthal : Verily in the messenger of Allah ye have a good example for him who looketh unto Allah and the Last Day, and remembereth Allah much. Yusuf Ali : Ye have indeed in the Messenger of Allah a beautiful pattern (of conduct) for anyone whose hope is in Allah and the Final Day, and who engages much in the praise of Allah.
